Five Lifestyle Changes That Can Prevent Headaches

The causes of headaches can be elusive sometimes, but improper lifestyle can make it likely to happen. Here are things you should do to prevent or at least minimize the occurrence of headaches:

  1. Have proper sleep: Your brain should respond well if you have regular biorhythm. Each night, you should have 7 or 8 hours of sleep. If you want to prevent headaches, you should have consistent schedule on when you go to bed and when you get up. During the weekends, your sleep pattern can be disrupted, because you may wake until late at night. This can affect your sleeping pattern during workdays as well. In reality, it takes up to six months to establish a steady natural cycle for your brain. If you have severe headache problem that you wake up a few times during the night, you may need to take a low dose of Elavil about one hour before you go to bed. Although dependence on medication isn’t ideal, you can get into deeper state of sleep and you will rest better. Without medication, the cycle of headache and poor sleep quality could only get worse.
  2. Manage your stress level: It’s something that’s easier said than done. Headache is the physical reaction of chronic stress. If you don’t slow down, your body will force you to slow down and headache is a natural response for that. So, if you can handle stress, it’s more likely for you to not having headache. It’s better to learn about coping skills. Find a counsellor or class that can help you to manage this problem. If you stare blankly when someone asks you on what do you do to remove stress, then it’s likely that you don’t know how to manage stress.
  3. Manage depression: Stress and depression are two different things. In fact, people can mistake depression as an ordinary stress. You shouldn’t underestimate the effects of depression. You may have depression when you feel anxiety or sadness, even if there’s no direct cause for it. If your mental issues are lingering, despite what’s happening around you, then seek a professional help to find out whether you have depression.
  4. Exercise regularly: If you have headaches, consider whether you don’t exercise enough. It’s recommended to exercise three times or more each week. A proper exercise allows you to hit target heart rate for a period of time. Another good indication is that you sweat and your skin feels warm. Regular exercise sessions raise the level of serotonin in your brain, so you won’t have headaches.
  5. Don’t skip breakfast: It’s true that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It’s acceptable to barely have dinner, but things can be quite bad if you skip breakfast consistently. If you don’t have breakfast, it is more likely for you to get irritated. For better results, you should consume baked goods made of whole grain flour and anything that has complex carbohydrate. It’s better to drink real orange juice, than coffee. Caffeine can dehydrate your body and make you feel jittery.
