For many of us, dogs are part of our lifestyle and they are simply part of our family members. However, dogs can become wonderful companies only if they are well trained. Poorly trained dogs could be troublesome and become another burden of your lives. Unfortunately, many people are busy and they have barely enough time to train their dogs. You need to be consistent if you want to fix the behavioural problems of your dogs. One practice session each week during the weekend isn’t going to cut it. In reality, it’s relatively easy to fit regular training sessions in your daily activities. Here are things that you should do:
• Require your dog to get your permission: Be sure that your dog always gets permission before coming in or out of the car or house. This isn’t only about discipline, but can also save the life of your dog. If your dog habitually comes in or out of the fence gates, there’s a possibility that your dog will run onto an incoming car. So, if your home is located next to a road, you need to insist that your dog must get permission from you first.
• Wait for the school bus: This is a good daily practice session with your dog. If your dog sees you wait for something, he/she will learn how to wait too. While your kid is waiting for the school bus, command the dog to sit still. The trick is not to pet the dog, if your dog isn’t sitting still. So, if the dog wants to get your attention, then teach your dog to sit calmly. It can be quite challenging for the first week, but eventually, your dog will sit patiently until the bus arrives.
• Integrate your dog with your morning routine. Make sure that your dog is involved in your morning routine. As an example, you can teach your dog to sit still in the room, while you’re blow drying your hour. The dog can also get meal while the whole family is having breakfast. You can place the dog bowl next to the dining table, so the dog will see it as a family activity.
• Take advantage of available space: Most houses have ample space for dog training session. If you have a large property, this should be a good opportunity for you to perform proper training. Implement good training discipline that can help your dog to learn much more.
• Make it part of your morning or afternoon exercise: If you regularly jog in the morning or afternoon, you may go to the nearby park and perform various training programs. Many training techniques also require dog owner to walk or run alongside. So, you can do this as part of your regular training as well.
• Read dog training books or websites before you go to sleep: Spending 15 minutes each night for reading books and websites related to dog training can be a good thing. If you learn something new, you can consider as making a good progress as well.
