Adding hardwood flooring could change the feel of your room. The flooring can affects the visual aesthetics of your interior and you should the floor style that matches the image you want to create. If traditional beauty and sophistication is what you’re after, then hardwood flooring should be a great choice. There are different ways for you to properly personalize hardwood flooring, from the finish application and type of wood. If you have a preferred personality, you should make sure that your flooring is a reflection of your personality.

First of all, you should decide what kind of wood that you want to use for your floor. A type of wood has its own unique grain pattern. As an example, maple has lighter patterns and smaller grain, so it should suit well for your elegant study or formal dining room. Oak has broader, larger grain patterns that can give homey, rustic feel to your home. When choosing a type of wood for your flooring, you should consider the grain patterns carefully.

After you choose the right wood, you should define the best shade. Darker shades should work well for more formal setting. However, if you want your home feels more inviting and open, then you should choose lighter shades. When choosing a shade, make sure that it goes well with your furniture. It’s easier to do than replacing your entire furnishings to match your new flooring.

The next step is to determine how hardwood planks should be cut. Thickness, length and width of hardwood planks will directly affect the finished look. Narrow boards are known as strip boards, which are useful for giving your room a contemporary feel. You can use larger boards to create an illusion of a bigger space. Wider boards can give your room country, earthier feel. When combines with light shade, your wide boards can deliver a comforting atmosphere.

After you decide on the dimension of planks, then you should choose the edge style. Edge of hardwood planks could be bevelled or flat. If you want to have a continuous floor space, you should choose planks with square, flat edges. This way, your hardwood flooring will have a finished and smooth feel. If you want to introduce texture to your flooring, then you should choose planks with bevelled edges. This way, you can create three-dimensional effect and a sense of depth. Your next decision will be the proper installation pattern. The way planks are laid out should bring the desired effect on the look of your floors. You can choose herringbone or parquet patterns to give some variations to your flooring design.

Finishing is the final touch for your hardwood flooring and it decides the visual look that you want. Traditional oil finish has been used for centuries and it could give your floor a timeless and deep look. You should be able to echo the classic appearance of European banquet halls and ballrooms. Before oiling, make sure to brush the flooring to remove splinters. Varnish and lacquer should give your floor a high polish appearance.
