6 reasons why your stove might need repairing

Maintenance is a crucial part of being a homeowner. Much like everything else in the house, your stove needs fixing from time to time, as well.

A stove is a necessity. You need one every day. You could be a Michelin Star chef or a person who survives on instant noodles; you need a stove in your home.

Repairs are the best way to ensure that you save money. If you do not attend to any issues soon enough, these minor issues evolve into something bigger, which may potentially require you to replace your stove altogether. Needless to say, if you are on a budget, you need to be mindful of your due repairs because stoves do not come cheap.

If you are inexperienced in the field and do not know anything about stoves, we are here to make things easy for you. Here are six signs your stove is begging for repairing. Let us get started.

  • Rusting

Rust is the enemy. Every metal surface is prone to rusting over time. However, rusting is preventable, provided you take care of it. When it comes to your stove, rusting is very normal and expected because there is occasional spillage while cooking. What many do not know about rusting is that once it starts, if you do not attend to it soon enough, it spreads, and the next thing you know, your entire metal surface is plagued with rust. Additionally, rust is very hazardous to your health as it encourages the growth of the bacteria that cause tetanus. For this reason, if you notice rust on your stove, you must attend to it as soon as possible.

  • Burner Not Turning On

You may have encountered an instance when your burner refused to turn on. In such cases, you must realize that there is an underlying internal issue that needs replacement. For gas stoves, it is the igniter that is responsible for lighting the stove. If your gas stove refuses to turn on, get your stove’s igniter checked. If you have an electric stove, there is a possibility of an issue with your heating element. Your burner not turning on is a serious issue that must not be taken lightly. Leaving the gas can result in some severe damage; therefore, you must be extra careful by ensuring that you switch the stove off in every case.

  • Unevenly Cooked Food

Unevenly cooked food is not always the cook’s fault. We are always quick to blame the cook for not being skilled enough to handle matters in the kitchen. However, in reality, your stove might be equally to blame for the issue. If you notice your cake getting burnt from the bottom but raw from the top even though you monitored temperatures accordingly, your stove likely needs repairing. This issue could be concerned with your temperature sensor. To avoid any further burnt and undercooked meals, get the matter looked into at your earliest convenience.

  • Gas Smell

When you switch on your stove, it is perfectly normal to smell gas. However, it is not normal to smell gas from your stove constantly, even when you are not cooking. If you are experiencing something similar, call your repairman stat because leaky gas can create a hazardous situation. In the time being, be careful not to light a fire nearby and open your windows to ventilate the room. Find an experienced professional to handle your GE stove repair because, without a stove, you cannot prepare any of your meals.

  • Cracked Glass Top

Glass top cracked often go by unnoticed, but they can be severely hazardous to you. A cracked glass top can result in an electrical shock as well as a result in the entire glass top shattering owing to changes in the surrounding temperature. When the stove is on, there is surrounding heat that can cause the glass to expand. When switched off, the reduced temperature results in the glass contracting. This constant shifting results in bigger cracks and the glass shattering eventually. Your entire glass top shattering is a scary sight and potentially very dangerous to you, as well. Therefore, if you see a small crack on your glass top, fix it as soon as possible.

  • Smoke

Smoke is never a good time unless you are setting up a barbeque. If you notice your smoke coming out of your stove, your appliance needs repair immediately. Even if you can smell it, call your serviceman now. Smoke is the ultimate warning sign. You don’t need to see smoke.

  • Parting Thoughts

Your stove is one of your most frequently used appliances; therefore, you must make sure that it is working at top speed. Appliance repair is essential to maintain the integrity of your home as well as avoid additional costs because replacements always cost more. Do not sleep on a faulty stove, for it may be risky to your wellbeing. Safety first, so get your repairs scheduled soon.
