When the owner of a good home audio system spends a lot of time by the wheel, soon or late this person pays attention to the standard audio system in his/her car and thinks about the improvement of the car sound quality. For some people, for the sound improvement it is enough to simply increase the reserve of undistorted loudness, while others are trying to get closer to the home High End system.
The first step in the process of replacement is to decide what exactly is needed. If there is a desire to make a system of a high class, then, it is necessary to learn about it and prepare for decent financial injections. Alternatively, you can approach the goal in stages.
Stage one. Noise isolation
The simplest way to improve the acoustics of your speakers and eliminate unnecessary resonances and other metallic sounds is to use materials for vibration damping. They are usually made on the basis of rubber or bitumen, using various additives. Their main feature is high internal viscosity. These are simply sheets that are cut to shape and rolled neatly over the metal. However, sometimes such materials also come in the form of mastics.
Vibration-absorbing material treatment removes metallic sound and improves the operating conditions of installed speakers. The harder and heavier ones perform better. Thinner and lighter ones are easier to work with, but the effect is not perfect.
Stage two. Replacing the standard speakers
This is where you need to be very careful. If you change only the speakers, it is far from the fact that the operation of a system will improve. Moreover, sometimes, the result may on the contrary be negative. Despite the fact that the standard audio system is not perfect, everything in it is balanced.
Stage three. Audio system tuning without taking the standard head unit out
In this case, there is a problem that must be solved when acting on the amplifying part of the system – where to take the original uncorrected linear signal, from which you can start forming a new audio system.
There are four options for this:
- Output a linear signal from the electronic interior of the head unit. It is not hard to do it. You can get not too expensive tail with RCA connectors on the back for your standard head unit.
- This option has to be used when there is no way to output a linear signal. In this case, the standard amplifier in the system is left, decisively disconnecting the standard speakers from it and putting its outputs on the new amplifier inputs.
- For such cases – there is an option of using a digital processor such as Audison or Helix DSP. They can send any restored signal to a new amplifier.
- It is suitable for the cars in which the integrated system uses the MOST buses. The peculiar feature of the MOST structure is in the fact that all devices are united by a single digital bus, through which circulate the data. In such a system, it is impossible to take or delete anything, since the data transfer will be interrupted and everything will stop working. It may sound complicated, but at the same time, this option is the most reliable and easiest to install.
Stage four. Standard audio system complete replacement
There are situations when not only the sound of the standard system is not satisfied, but also the functionality of the standard audio system itself. In this case, you often think about replacing it. First of all, carefully study the existing head unit. If it has its own display and no command facilities of the audio system are connected to the rest of the car’s systems, then it is possible to remove it without damaging the remaining systems.
To sum it all up, it should be said that sometimes it is hard to replace the standard audio system in the car. Moreover, this process could become very expensive and even damage some crucial elements of communication and electronics. That is why you should think thoroughly before starting the replacement of the audio system in your car.
