How to Know If You Are Mentally Ill? 6 Common Signs

Every one among five could get mentally ill and that One could be your friend, colleague or even a family member. So it is quite important to know that how you can differentiate between a bad moon and a very serious mental disorder. There can be variety of signs such as crying for no specific reason, excessive drinking, extremely shocking behavior etc. Sometimes the sufferer might experience multiple symptoms at the same time. Some of the most common signs are as follow:

 

Sign # 1: Feeling Worried or Anxious

 

We all have problems in life and it is not so shocking if sometimes, we get worried, stressful or anxious especially when the condition remains for a short period of time. However, anxiety might be considered as one of the common signs of mental disorders particularly when it occurs on constant basis. Therefore, it is also crucial to know the common symptoms of anxiety which include racing mind, restlessness, shortness of breath, heart palpitations, headache, or diarrhea.

 

Sign # 2: Missing Sound Sleep

 

Usually a normal person takes 7-8 hours of sound sleep every night and in case of constant changes in your sleeping order might be taken as a sign for some kind of mental disorder. If you take too little or too much sleep, you might be suffering from depression or anxiety. The condition must be taken seriously and proper consultation should be made with the doctor to treat symptoms in time.

 

Sign # 3: Experiencing Depression or Unhappiness

 

There are activities, hobbies and discussions which you share with those who show their interest. If you notice that your colleague, friend, brother or cousin who used to take part in your favorite activities has suddenly lost interest for few days or weeks, you should try to get a closer look on this issue because they might be experiencing depression. Sadness, irritation and disappointment are some other signs of depression.

 

Sign # 4: Emotional outbursts

 

You meet different people in life and everyone could have different mood but you are aware of the mood and behavior of those who you interact with regularly. If you know someone who has cool attitude and meets with pleasure, you expect the same attitude every time you meet him. However, if you notice an unexpected change in his mood like he shows anger or distress, it could be a result of some kind of mental disorder.

 

Sign # 5: Feeling Worthless or Total Failure

 

When someone experiences depression, he might have thoughts such as “I’m a total failure’ or I’m completely useless’ or ‘I can never achieve my goals’ or ‘it’s all my faults’. If you see someone in your family expressing negative feelings about themselves, blaming or criticizing themselves for their failures, they need your help. Sometimes, the condition becomes even worse and the sufferer could even hurt himself.

 

Sign # 6: Changes in Appetite or Weight

 

You might want to lose your weight and there is nothing wrong with it but sometimes, you experience a rapid weight loss which can be a serious symptom of eating disorder, depression or some other mental illnesses.
